1. What is Young Scientist Day (YSD)?
Young Scientist Day (YSD) is a flagship community outreach programme organised by the Department of Human Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The event aims to inspire curiosity and foster interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) through fun, hands-on learning experiences for children.
2. What is the objective of YSD?
YSD is designed to:
Promote interest in science among school children
Encourage experiential and inquiry-based learning
Support STEM/STEAM education in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education
Provide a platform for interactive engagement between scientists, students, and the community
3. Who can participate?
YSD is open to:
Preschool and primary school children
Parents, guardians, and teachers
4. When and where will YSD be held?
YSD will be held on 13th June 2026 at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Opening hours: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
5. Do I need to register?
Yes, participation requires prior registration.
Please note: Registration is non-refundable.
6. What activities can participants expect?
Participants can look forward to:
More than 30 new and exciting STEAM-based activities
Hands-on science experiments and interactive booths
Creative and inquiry-driven workshops
Educational demonstrations by university students and researchers
Guided tours of two museums within UPM
Special take-home gifts for participants
7. Are the activities suitable for young children?
Yes. YSD features age-appropriate activities, including specially designed sessions suitable for children as young as 5 years old.
8. Do children need to be accompanied?
Yes, all children must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or teacher throughout the event.
9. What should participants bring?
Participants are encouraged to bring:
Comfortable clothing and shoes
Water bottle
Hat or umbrella (for outdoor activities)
10. Is there an entrance fee?
There is no separate fee for individual activity stations. A one-time registration fee grants full access to all activities at YSD.
11. Will food and drinks be available?
Yes, food and beverages may be available at designated areas within the venue. Participants may also bring their own refreshments.
12. Is parking available at the venue?
Yes, parking facilities will be available within Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Additional details will be provided closer to the event date.
13. Will certificates be provided?
Certificates of participation may be provided to all participants after the event via email.
14. What if it rains?
YSD will proceed as planned. Indoor activities will continue, and necessary adjustments will be made for outdoor sessions.
